A miniature version of a classic lunula to be worn by itself or strung in groups on bead. A lunula was a crescent moon shaped pendant worn by women and girls wore them as an protective amulet. In the popular belief the Romans wore amulets usually as a talisman, to protect themselves against evil forces, demons and sorcery, but especially against the evil eye. This belief carried over into the Slavic and Baltic countries. Lunulas are found as far north in the Viking world as Birka and Gotland.
